Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this service best suited to?

Boncentric’s mobile respiratory screening model is best suited to employers with larger worker cohorts, regional locations, multiple sites or recurring health surveillance requirements. Smaller cohorts may be considered where they align with existing travel schedules or nearby programs.

What industries do you support?

Boncentric supports employers in quarrying, construction materials, civil and road construction, infrastructure, tunnelling, demolition, concrete, mining services and other industries where workers may be exposed to respirable crystalline silica.

What does Boncentric's crystalline silica health surveillance program include?

Boncentric’s onsite Respirable Crystalline Silica Health Surveillance Program includes occupational and exposure history review, respiratory function testing (including Complex Lung Function / DLCO testing where required), ILO chest X-ray, medical examination, supervising doctor review, final reporting and coordination of follow-up investigations where required.

Do you service regional and remote areas?

Yes. Boncentric’s mobile clinic model is specifically designed to support regional and remote workforces, subject to worker numbers, scheduling and mobilisation requirements. Boncentric brings the required medical resourcing and equipment directly to your site, helping significantly reduce travel and lost productivity costs for your workforce.

Can you support multi-site employers?

Yes. We work with many multi-site employers to plan coordinated, periodic screening campaigns across multiple sites or regional clusters.

What are the respiratory health surveillance requirements for crystalline silica-exposed workers?

In accordance with Safe Work Australia regulations, workers exposed to crystalline silica must undergo regular respiratory health assessments, especially those performing tasks such as cutting, grinding, or polishing silica-containing materials. Health surveillance must be overseen by a qualified medical professional and conducted periodically, based on the level of risk and extent of exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust.

Crystalline Silica health surveillance examinations generally include the following components:

  • Respiratory questionnaire
  • ILO chest X-ray read by a qualified B-reader Radiologist
  • Spirometry test
  • Chest examination
  • Further follow-up tests if required (complex lung test, HRCT scan and / or respiratory specialist review)
Can Boncentric act as the supervising doctor?

Respiratory health surveillance programs for crystalline silica exposed workers must be supervised by an appropriately qualified Supervising Doctor. Their responsibility is to ensure that examinations are carried out by experienced and qualified physicians and to report the examination findings to the Person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU).

Boncentric offers a team of highly experienced Supervising Doctors to oversee health surveillance examinations for crystalline silica-exposed workers.
