Simplifying your RSHQ health surveillance compliance

As a mobile health provider, Boncentric helps Queensland coal mine operators meet RSHQ’s Coal Mine Worker Health Scheme (CMWHS)  and Mine Rescue / Emergency Response Team (ERT) health surveillance requirements without relying on fragmented clinic-based pathways. Our service provides an efficient, consistent and well-governed process from initial booking through to final reporting.

For coal mine workers who show abnormal findings during their baseline Mine Rescue medical, Boncentric can facilitate further investigations as per the Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) Clinical Pathways Guidelines. These investigations may include a complex lung function testing (DLCO), HRCT scan and / or consultation with a respiratory specialist to confirm or exclude a dust-related lung disease.

Summary of RSHQ Mine Rescue / Emergency Response Team (ERT) Medicals

Participating in mine rescue operations requires personnel to endure physically and mentally challenging conditions, often in harsh and hazardous environments.

Given the elevated risks from poor ventilation or polluted atmospheres, mine rescue personnel must wear self-contained breathing apparatus. These, combined with increased underground humidity, can significantly raise the physical demands and the risk of heat stress.

As a result, mine rescue personnel are subject to more frequent and rigorous health assessments. In addition to standard assessment components, they must complete a specialised VO2 step test to evaluate physical fitness and ensure they can safely carry out their duties.

How to Partner with Boncentric’s Appointed Medical Advisers (AMA)

As part of the CMWHS health assessment, employers must designate an Appointed Medical Adviser (AMA). The AMA is responsible for conducting, overseeing, and reporting on health assessments and exit examinations for coal mine workers.

Boncentric can collaborate with your current AMA to deliver specific onsite services, such as radiology or spirometry, or can provide all required examination components under CMWHS guidelines.

Alternatively, Boncentric can offer the services of our AMAs who are leaders in their field and meet all qualifications and experience standards for assessing coal mine workers.

If you prefer us to partner with your existing AMA or would like to appoint one of Boncentric’s physicians as your site’s AMA, please reach out to us.
